Biography

David Joseph McGuinty is a Canadian lawyer and politician currently serving as Canada's Minister of National Defence since May 2025. A member of the Liberal Party, he has represented Ottawa South as its Member of Parliament (MP) since 2004. From 2017 to 2024, McGuinty held the distinction of being the first chair of the National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians (NSICOP), an agency tasked with overseeing Canadian intelligence services.
