David Brent Baszucki was born on January 20, 1963, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and grew up in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. He attended Eden Prairie High School and later studied engineering and computer science at Stanford University, graduating in 1985 as a General Motors Scholar in electrical engineering. While at Stanford, he completed a summer internship at General Motors, focusing on controlling car engines with software.
