David McCandless, born in 1971, is a British data-journalist, writer, and information designer. He began his career in the late 1980s, writing for video gaming and computer magazines such as Your Sinclair, PC Zone, and PC Format. In 1995, McCandless published his first book, 'TrekMaster', which was based on Star Trek trivia.

After the 1990s, McCandless transitioned to working for prominent publications like The Guardian and Wired.
