Daniel Michio Tani is an American engineer and retired NASA astronaut, born February 1, 1961. He was selected as an astronaut candidate by NASA in April 1996 and reported to the Johnson Space Center in August 1996. After two years of training, he qualified as a mission specialist in 1998. Tani flew on STS-108 in 2001, logging over 11 days in space and more than 4 hours in one spacewalk.
