Carlos Alvarado Quesada is a Costa Rican politician, writer, journalist, and political scientist. He served as the 48th President of Costa Rica from May 8, 2018, to May 8, 2022. At 38 years old at the time of his inauguration, he was the youngest serving Costa Rican president since 1914. Currently, he is a Professor of Practice in Diplomacy at The Fletcher School at Tufts University.
Prior to his presidency, Alvarado Quesada held several key roles within the Costa Rican government.
