Bo Yang (born Guō Dìngshēng) was a prominent Chinese historian, novelist, philosopher, poet, and social critic based in Taiwan. Born in Kaifeng, Henan Province, China, he later adopted the pen name Bo Yang. He participated in youth organizations of the Kuomintang and joined the party in 1938. After graduating from National Northeastern University, he moved to Taiwan in 1949 following the Kuomintang's defeat in the civil war.
