Bernard Widrow was an American professor of electrical engineering at Stanford University, recognized for his pioneering work in artificial neural networks. He is notably the co-inventor of the Widrow–Hoff least mean squares (LMS) adaptive algorithm, developed with his doctoral student Ted Hoff. This algorithm was foundational, leading to the creation of the ADALINE and MADALINE artificial neural networks and contributing to the development of the backpropagation technique.
