Arundhati Roy is an Indian author and political activist, widely recognized for her literary work and advocacy. She gained international fame with her novel, The God of Small Things (1997), which earned her the Booker Prize for Fiction in 1997 and became the biggest-selling book by a non-expatriate Indian author. In 2024, she was awarded the PEN Pinter Prize by English PEN, where she named Alaa Abd El-Fattah as the 'Writer of Courage' to share the award.
