Biography

Anthony D. Romero is an American lawyer who has served as the Executive Director (CEO) of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) since September 2001. He is the first Latino and openly gay man to hold this position. Born in the Bronx, New York City, Romero was the first member of his family to graduate from high school.

Under Romero's leadership, the ACLU has undergone significant growth and transformation.
