Alan Greenspan was an American economist who served as the 13th chair of the Federal Reserve from 1987 to 2006. Nominated by President Ronald Reagan in August 1987, he was reappointed at successive four-year intervals, holding the position for the second-longest tenure until his retirement in January 2006. Following his time at the Federal Reserve, Greenspan worked as a private adviser and provided consulting for firms through his company, Greenspan Associates LLC.
