Alan Greenspan, born in 1926 in New York City, pursued a career in economics after initially studying clarinet at Juilliard and working as a professional musician. He earned his B.S., M.A., and Ph.D. in economics from New York University.
Greenspan held significant roles in U.S. economic policy, serving as chair of the Council of Economic Advisers under President Ford from 1974 to 1977.
