Ahmed Al-sharaa, also known as Abu Mohammad al-Julani, is the President of Syria, a position he has held since January 2025. His rise to power followed an 11-day offensive in November 2024 that led to the collapse of the Bashar al-Assad government, after which he served as Syria's de facto leader from December 2024.
Born in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Al-sharaa joined al-Qaeda in Iraq before the 2003 invasion and was imprisoned from 2006 to 2011.
