Abdel Fattah El-sisi is an Egyptian politician and retired military officer who has served as the 6th president of Egypt since 2014. Born on November 19, 1954, he grew up in the Gamaleya neighbourhood of Historic Cairo.
Following the 2011 Egyptian revolution, El-sisi was appointed Minister of Defense and Commander-in-Chief of the Egyptian Armed Forces in August 2012. He subsequently led the 2013 Egyptian coup d'état, which overthrew President Mohamed Morsi.
